Cyber Security & Governance Certification Program

Security & Continuity

Security & Continuity Institute (SECO)

We are Europe’s leading institute for high-level Security & Continuity certification titles. SECO has developed the Cyber Security & Governance Certification Program.

The Cyber Security & Governance Certification Program encompasses 7 certification tracks, with each track focusing on a specific field of expertise in security and continuity. Each certification track provides a complete learning pathway, enabling you to develop from Foundation to Certified Officer level in your chosen discipline. To best suit your needs, we have made sure that you can join your chosen track at any level.

We have designed each certification track with one goal in mind: to give you the knowledge and skills to achieve your career ambitions and establish yourself as a globally recognised professional. Earning the highest-level qualification (Certified Officer) in your certification track will qualify you for positions such as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Data Protection Officer (DPO), Business Continuity Manager, or Crisis Manager.

Certification Levels

Each of the certification tracks consists of four levels, beginning with the Foundation Level. The Foundation Level is followed by the Practitioner, and thereafter the Expert Level. After completing the Expert Level, you can apply for the Certified Officer Level, provided that you have the required work experience.

Foundation level

The Foundation level of each track is designed for professionals who seek to enter the career field. Foundation trainings are 2-day courses focused on subject-matter awareness, key concepts and core principles. They provide you with in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical insights to give you a solid grounding in the “what” of your chosen discipline. Foundation certificates are valuable entry-level qualifications that help you to kick-start a new career and progress to further study.

Practitioner level

The Practitioner level is designed for professionals with solid basic knowledge and skills in their chosen specialisation. Practitioner trainings are 5-day courses focused on hands-on practice in a simulated business environment. During a Practitioner training, you employ your skills and knowledge to problem-solve realistic scenarios and case studies relating to a fictional company called Bicsma. Besides hands-on practice opportunities, Bicsma also provides you with templates and sample documents you can use directly in your work.

By challenging you to complete realistic and job-relevant assignments, Practitioner trainings enable you to master the “how” of your chosen discipline. Practitioner certificates are intermediate qualifications that showcase your ability to carry out specific job-related tasks and enable you to progress to the Expert level.

Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive a certificate, in the possession of which you can register for the internationally recognised SECO-Institute Practitioner title. The Practitioner Certification requires a minimum of 20 CPE credits yearly (a total of 60 credits in the three-year certification cycle).

Expert level

The Expert level is designed for Practitioner-level professionals who aspire to grow into a strategic management position in their chosen field. This level focuses on developing subject-matter expert and management skills. In Expert trainings, emphasis is given to assignments relating to strategy/policy development and implementation, planning, and other high-level job-relevant skills. Expert qualifications showcase that you possess the top competencies of a successful security or continuity leader.

Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive your certificate, in the possession of which you can register for the internationally recognised SECO-Institute Expert title. The Expert Certification requires a minimum of 40 CPE credits yearly (a total of 120 credits in the three-year certification cycle).

Certified Officer level

The Certified Officer level is the highest achievable qualification in each certification track. To earn this qualification, you do not need to follow a course. To be eligible for a Certified Officer title, you need to demonstrate Expert-level knowledge (SECO Expert certificate or equivalent) and at least 3 years of relevant work experience. Certified Officer qualifications are awarded to candidates upon a thorough assessment of their professional achievements and certificates.

The Certified Officer certification requires a minimum of 40 CPE credits yearly (a total of 120 credits in the three-year certification cycle).
